Our trainer of the month MaryBeth, said she loves anything grilled...and what perfect timing because grilling season is in! Julie (B.S. Foods and Nutrition) has given us 4 nutritional benefits of grilling, so fire up the grill and start cooking! 1. You consume less excess fats. Grilling allows for the fats to drip off and cook away, which in turn leaves less fat in the food itself.
2. Your food will lose less of its nutritional properties. Due to the shorter cooking time when grilling, vegetables retain more vitamins and minerals. In addition, meats retain more thiamine and riboflavin which are essential vitamins. Other cooking methods cause the nutrients to seep out of the food and mix with the water or oil that is boiled in. 3. You lower your sodium intake. Processed foods often contain high amounts of sodium, so preparing the food yourself at home will automaticallylead to you and your family consuming less sodium. 4. Reduces calories. You are less likely to add oil and butter as well as sauces and other condiments since the high heat from the grill seals in moisture and keeps food tender. Not only will grilling make it easier for you to consume less fat and sodium, but it will also hold on to more of those nutrients that our bodies crave
